An HOA Run Like a Reality Show—Except You’re Paying for It… Northern Terrace...

An HOA Run Like a Reality Show—Except You’re Paying for It… Northern Terrace HOA is the poster child for everything that can go wrong when a board forgets who it works for. Over the past eight years, this association has been investigated and found to have violated Nevada law over a dozen times, yet the same culture of arrogance and dysfunction continues. The current board is stacked with members who openly boast about their law enforcement “connections” and have stated during open meetings that they’ve used those connections to identify, investigate, or intimidate homeowners. If that doesn’t alarm you, it should. The board president has already been found to have violated state law after an altercation involving juveniles at the community pool. He later used the HOA for commercial promotional videos, and now homeowners are footing the bill for what appears to be his personal legal crusade against another resident. This is also the same board that raided roughly $300,000 collected for the gated section and spent it on everything except the gate. While common areas continue to deteriorate, they’re busy promoting Realtors they’re friendly with, deferring maintenance, and making excuse after excuse. The Southern Nevada Health District has repeatedly cited and fined this association over imminent health hazards at the pools. Instead of accepting responsibility, the board blames everyone else. Assessments keep going up while the community keeps going downhill. And somehow it gets worse. The board recently decided it was a good idea to publicly stream NHL Stanley Cup Playoff games at the pool using a personal streaming account instead of obtaining the required commercial license. They also play copyrighted music throughout the common areas without apparent licensing. They seem to believe intellectual property laws don’t apply to them either. Every decision creates more liability. Every excuse costs homeowners more money. Every year the community falls further behind. I wouldn’t recommend buying into this HOA under any circumstances. A board that treats homeowner money like its own, ignores repeated legal issues, and creates unnecessary liability is not protecting the community—it’s putting it at risk.
