It feels a little like Green Acres meets Gilligan’s Island.
It feels a little like Green Acres meets Gilligan’s Island. The GM is a guy with no apparent management experience who applied for the job, and apparently that’s how things work here. The community seems to give preference to anyone who threatens to sue. There is a lawyer involved who apparently doesn’t even have an office here. Meanwhile, a lot of money has still gone toward lawsuits. Poor decisions seem to be the norm. The fees may seem low, but there have been plenty of questionable decisions over the years. The previous GM was involved in grant-related projects and worked with the landscaping company Bekos on things like removing dead trees and cleaning ditches. He still lives here, along with his First Lady. He comes across as two-faced, while she is the relentlessly fake optimist. The place is now looking rundown. The amenities are worn out, and there is only one maintenance person left after another passed away. Both had physical issues, and the community has now lost another young employee. You can understand why people don’t want to stay. The Board also has its share of troublemakers. Short-term rentals have taken over, and it feels like they receive preferential treatment. The joke that is supposed to be security patrol is another story. The sheriff’s office is more than 35 minutes away, and there seems to be very little order or structure at community meetings. Residents are overpaying for sewer and water fees, while the roads are now coming due for major work after years of poor maintenance and questionable management decisions. Trash is another ongoing problem, seemingly made worse by heavily used short-term rentals. There is very little sense of community anymore. What was once a beautiful place has been allowed to deteriorate through a combination of poor management, inadequate maintenance, and questionable decisions by the Board and staff. The natural beauty may not last much longer if things continue this way. The marina is new but mostly empty. The HOA/HP seems to overstep, and there are barely any signs around anymore because someone apparently put up anti-STR signs. The roads will eventually become a major expense because they haven’t been properly maintained. The pool, changing rooms, and hot tub are in similar condition. Pretty much every place where the community is supposed to gather is in some state of disrepair. Do not recommend. Stay away.
