Where the American Dream Goes to Die and Gets Replaced by the American Nightmare! Vote math for special assessments and elections never reconciles. Our most expensive project ever, re-roofing the whole community, had a ballot with no option to “reject” and two options for “in favor” at different price points. The results from that vote consisted of 248 ballots. The results for those ballots were: No: 0 Yes ($6,500/unit): 179 Yes ($6,500/unit + $4.4M loan): 98 The total is 277 (+29 more than ballots). Which should not surprise anyone, given that the board officers in charge of that fiasco also got more votes than ballots in our election. From 151 ballots: Gunn: 187 (+36) votes Huskey: 175 (+24) votes McCarthy: 163 (+12) votes Cumulative voting is banned in the declarations. Ever since I’ve been attending board meetings, I’ve yet to see an honest vote. My reward for enlightening the community: a lawsuit spanning 2 years and costing hundreds of thousands of dollars, which they voluntarily dismissed on the eve of trial when “evidence” would fall under scrutiny. So, if you’re considering buying within this HOA, don’t just walk away. RUN away as fast as your feet will take you.
